VISIONS OUT OF THE SILENT PLANET

When one is running short of ideas to write a music blog they just reach for KING'S X (laugh). Most people to this day would probaly ask me who the hell is that. KING'S X back in the day, when progressive and hard rock was my thing in the mid to late 90`s, was one of my favourite 'alternative bands'.

While most Gen-Y-er's were obsessed with post Seatle grunge and angst chick rock like ALANIS MORRISETTE, I was really digging for something more obscure, besides KING'S X, I was really into bands like RUSH and THE PIXIES, two very pioneering bands in their own right, with the latter widely regarded along with NEIL YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE as being where alternative rock began.

Maybe the GRATEFUL DEAD and VELVET UNDERGROUND would disagree (laugh). THE PIXIES song WHERE IS MY MIND is trippy man, really weird but it makes any 90's alternative rock sound as progressive as KURT COBAIN.

Before I confuse myself, here is the KING'S X song VISIONS, the last track off the band's epic progressive heavy rock masterpiece debut album OUT OF THE SILENT PLANET, released in 1988.

Guitarist TY TABOR never recorded a.meaner guitar riff in his whole life, and bass guitarist/ lead vocalist DOUG PINNICK, who come out as being gay many years later, doesn't sound gay singing this song, he dug very deep and delivered a ferocious performance, well that's stretching it (laugh). Tabor replicated a classic BLACK SABBATH riff for VISIONS.
