LEE KERNAGHAN PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE KING OF AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY

If there's one genre of music which i get a few requests to touch on from some of my australian readers it's country music, which isn't really my forte but I am in fact quite tolerant of australian country music, much more so than the stuff coming out of america.

The iconic country music veteran LEE KERNAGHAN has made it on here once before with his first ever big hit from way back in 1992, that being BOYS FROM THE BUSH off the album THE OUTBACK CLUB, unashamedly someone who idolises australia's most respected and well loved country artist SLIM DUSTY, Kernaghan paid tribute to the 'king of australian country music' off his most recent album, the critically very well recieved BEAUTIFUL NOISE, which I have listened to and I rate as being even better than his back to basics and rootsy album PLANET CARAVAN from 2009 and certainly up there with the perfectly ageing 1992 debut or my favourite until now - ELECTRIC RODEO from 2002.

One listen to BEAUTIFUL NOISE and you get the feeling Lee Kernaghan has nailed the perfect balance between retaining his classic pub rock and R&B influences while venturing more confidently into the bush ballad category than he ever has before, which of course sums up  what SLIM DUSTY made an artform for half a century.

Slim is no longer with us but Lee paid the ultimate tribute to him with the song FLYING WITH THE KING, which would appear to be his own personal recount of the one time he was privileged to fly with his hero on the same aeroplane.
