WHITNEY HOUSTON WAS GREAT BUT HOW MUCH GREATER COULD SHE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT BOBBY BROWN?

Whitney Houston is probaly the best pop singer who ever lived, arguably in the top five singers of all time in any category. If it weren't for an ill advised pre-occupation with pop when her greatest strength was always singing soul straight out of the church and an even more ill advised marriage to the troublesome Bobby Brown, then the chances are Houston's fate would have wound up a lot diffrently than being found dead in or near a bathtub in Los Angeles at the untimely age of just 48. She still had so much to offer the music world as a glorious singer, provided she stayed off all the prescription and illicit drugs which since the mid 90`s had made many of her live performances less than fantastic, to the point where she couldn't hit the magical high notes which characterised her first two studio albums in the 80`s when she went out on stage ten years later and beyond. In the aftermath of her death, there are many unofficial polls being conducted as to what her greatest song was, the grandisose and monumentally melodramatic I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU which comes
off the Bodyguard soundtrack is always at the top, personally i find it too pretentious & over the top, despite the brilliant finale where Houston hit the 5th octave like no other singer has ever done before so powerfully. I cant say i know a lot of her songs besides those on her first two studio outings, while they are a bit too pop for those who saw Whitney Houston as the new queen of soul in the 80`s, the songs still showcased her amazing voice absolutely perfectly. My favourites, i know some guys will say it makes
me sound sissy (laugh) is I WANNA DANCE (WITH SOMEBODY) and the amateurish and
less soulful HOW WILL I KNOW? To me, those 2 songs some up the magic of Whitney Houston a lot more than her 90`s stuff. By that time, her volatile marriage to Brown
had already sapped her musical inspiration & by the mid 90`s drugs were only adding
to her growing list of personal troubles. May she rest in peace, it was no way to exit
but she will be remembered as one of the greatest singers of all time, someone who
let all things unmusical trainwreck so much talent which we never were able to see.
