DIAMOND DAVE ALWAYS MADE A HABIT OF GETTING HIMSELF INTO `BIG TROUBLE` WITH OR WITHOUT VAN HALEN

Despite being the life of the party for Van Halen and being sorely missed in the band following his shock departure or dismissal, to this day no one outside the band knows forsure, David Lee Roth fared worse both commercially and arguably artistically than Van Halen MARK 2 featuring Sammy Hagar on vocals.

Roth had dabbled on the side as a solo performer while still a member of Van Halen
with the CALIFORNIA GIRLS EP, which was released in 1983, containing a beefed up heavy rock guitar interpretation of the classic Beach Boys song, as well as the lewd JUST A GIGOLO, a mini set of songs which in some respects had more panache and petrol in the artistic tank than most of the songs on Van Halen`s commercial breakthrough 1984.

After he was gone from Van Halen, Roth went about forming a new band with legendary axeman Steve Vai and well respected drummer Greg Bissonette.

The first Roth solo album is the best
one he ever recorded, and this tune is the
best song off it.

To me, it rates as one of the best pieces of power rock or heavy rock guitar funk, that`s the best way of describing it.

Not quite certain why the video clip here is showing Roth performing next to Eddie Van Halen in place of Steve Vai, perhaps it`s a case of wishful thinking and willing the Van Halen reunion with Roth which in more recent times finally was made to be a reality.
