DONT LAUGH OK BUT CRAIG MCLACHLAN AND CHECK 1-2 WERE THE JIMI HENDRIX OF AUSTRALIAN ROCK REVOLUTION

In the year of 1990, something really incredible happened which revolutionised Australian rock`n`roll music and gave it a hardcore edge that took it to a new and world beating level.

Craig McLachlan and his band CHECK 1-2 were formed, that`s what happened, and the music scene was never the same again in Australia.

McLachlan was best known up until that time as being a soap star in Australian shows such as Sons and Daughters and Neighbours, in the latter he played the role of Henry Ramsay, the loving brother of Charlene, who was played by none other than Kylie Minogue, the now queen of Australian pop`n`roll.

But CHECK 1-2 brought out the man in McLachlan, the band put hairs on his chest, and the brutal metal laden pop rock which he and CHECK 1-2 pumped out for a one and only album in 1990, stands as one of the great Australian rock albums to this very day.

CHECK 1-2 lead guitarist and keyboardist
Mark Philippoussis, who went on to play a tennis racket after the demise of CHECK 1-2 in 1992, played with heavy metal intensity in
the mould of AC/DC`s Angus Young and Metallica`s James Hetfield and laid down an album full of Whitesnake inspired blues riffs which were enhanced by the inclusion of some speed metal solos.

CHECK 1-2 drummer Posh Spice, a jazz trained drummer who loved to go troppo keeping up with the speed metal dynamics of Philippoussis, was a revelation for this one off Australian jam-a-thon.

McLachlan had her shipped in from England, that is how good Spice was beating the skins. And bassist Russell Crowe, who was a ring-in from New Zealand who was renowned as being a bit of a romper stomper, pulled the strings on bass so well that Rolf Harris called him up after CHECK 1-2 split and to this day he plays bass in the veteran wobble boarder's band.

CHECK 1-2, their one and only album from 1990 is very rare and hard to find, but it is up there with the best Aussie rock albums.

McLachlan for a brief time was the king of
rock`n`roll, sadly his run ended only a year or so later.

  2. I always liked this album, but then I'm not a musical snob who dismisses it as just another Neighbours star album.
