IVA DAVIES IS WAITING FOR YOU IF YOU EVER DARE TO STEP INSIDE THE ICEHOUSE

On the subject of aussie music which come out at the beginning of the 80`s, to coincide with the blog I wrote just now about INXS` first gig, I thought I`d put a plug in for a song which was recorded around 1980 by the progressive inspired outfit Icehouse, led by the charismatic and mercurial Iva Davies.

Davies never made it a secret in artistic terms that he was heavily inspired by David Bowie, Icehouse started out by the name of THE FLOWERS, which before they took on the name Icehouse were just another pub rock band in most respects, there was no indication going by THE FLOWER`s most early output that the band under the name of Icehouse would end up being the definitive aussie prog rock band of the 80`s.

There was a lot of Ziggy Stardust-ness on display for the very first ICEHOUSE outing, the title of the album being Flowers in reference to the band`s old name.

Futuristic swirling keyboards, overdubbed echoey vocals courtesy of some classic Iva Davies melodrama and half a dozen at least classic and inventive progressive pop-laden rock songs.

The big hit songs off ICEHOUSE - FLOWERS, I am writing it like that to avoid confusion, are the hit single radio regulars WALLS and WE CAN GET TOGETHER.

The one song off it that`s the most progressive of the lot and has been getting some air play in the early hours of the morning on FM104 in Brisbane is the namesake song of the band - ICEHOUSE.

Iva Davies made the ultimate atmospheric
epic with this one, ICEHOUSE the song, as
you will find out if you do click on the You
Tube link above, is the perfect mixture
of Iva Davies theatrics and progressive
rock musicianship. A great clip to boot.
