CLASSIC COLTRANE BE-BOP WITH A RARE TOUCH OF SILKY SMOOTH VOCALS
What makes the album I'm about to mention unique for be-bop jazz is that it also features a singer, Johnny Hartman, who in those days was considered to be one of the best black crooners around, in the mould of Joe Williams in every sense of the word.
The album is simply and appropriately called JOHN COLTRANE AND JOHNNY HARTMAN.
No frills on these guys, what the album lacks in an adventurous title it makes up for with cool, incredibly sophisticated for its time jazz which while lacking R&B upbeat tempo still chugs along enough to stop you falling asleep, and to boot, for once a be-bop album has some lovely emotive singing to back-up some great instrumentation.

McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums are the other participants besides Coltrane and Hartman
for this album, there are 6 wonderfully melodic songs on it, THEY SAY IT`S WONDERFUL, DEDICATED TO YOU, MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE, LUSH LIFE, YOU ARE TOO BEAUTIFUL AND AUTUMN SERENADE.

This album is in the same league as Miles Davis` masterpiece KIND OF BLUE. One listen and you`ll be hooked.
