TURNBULL GOVERNMENT CYCLONE DEBBIE "COMPO" AN INSULT TO QUEENSLAND

Cyclone Debbie's multi-billion damage bill is both the Palaszczuk government's and the Turnbull government's problem.

Even if state governments should bear a significantly greater amount of the budget burden to rebuild or replace infrastructure lost or damaged in such a extreme weather event, states are still part of the Commonwealth.

Hence, the Turnbull government should at least be offering a decent percentage of the overall cost involved, like for example, one third. The misely pittance which the Turnbull government has offered is not only an insult to the residents and business owners who bore the brunt of the cyclone but to all Queenslanders.

Fair enough, perhaps the Palaszczuk government's submission to the Turnbull government for relief funding was a bit juvenile, hammied together on the run and lacking detail, but the bottom line is that the costings put forward were relatively accurate and not plucked out of thin air. Barnaby Joyce might not yet be convinced about that.
