WATCH THIS SPACE WHILE QUEENSLAND POLICE ETHICAL STANDARDS UNIT INVESTIGATES A TOP COP
Regarding the accusations which have been levelled against Assistant Police Commissioner Mike Condon by two former detectives for interfering with the Daniel Morcombe investigation, the deal is this.
Regardless of what Condon did or didn't do or say as accused - any interference within the police ranks at any level to do with any investigation can never be permitted to happen again from now on. Too bad too sad for any top cops who have a problem with that.
There needs to be a process implemented within the Queensland Police Service that ensures that substantiable evidence and tipoffs of any kind and nature can never be "fobbed off" by any officer - right down from the Police Commissioner to a lacky constable straight out of the police academy.
It's the Commissioner's obligation to the public and the QPS itself to ensure that no power hungry high ranking police officer ever unethically uses their lofty position and authority to decide what "they think" constitutes admissable evidence in an investigation and what doesn't.
Whether that was ever the case regarding the Daniel Morcombe investigation is yet to be proven beyond all doubt.
But what isn't in doubt is that such a scenario playing out within police ranks over the years in Queensland has derailed and stonewalled various other QPS cold case investigations.
Just think of Sharron Phillips and the Murphys Creek Murders investigations, and wonder no more. As of now, Queensland Police Service Ethical Standards unit is investigating the scathing accusations made against Condon. A case of cops investigating cops but you never know - karma can be mighty powerful and has a habit of winning the battle, sooner or later.
