BOOSTING AUSTRALIAN MILITARY PRESCENCE IN AFGHANISTAN IS A FUTILE EXERCISE
The latest deadly suicide bombing in Afghanistan once again has highlighted the futility of the western military's endeavours since 2004 to liberate the country from the brutality of the Taliban, and more recently, ISIS. Yes in the beginning, as in around 13 years ago when the US led offensive against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda cells began in Afghanistan - it was definitely warranted.
If the Vietnam war should have taught us all anything, in relation to what the brutal Viet Kong done to the people of south Vietnam, is that to at least some extent leaders in the "free world" always have had and always will have an obligation to go to the rescue of a country under attack or siege from a rogue dictatorship or militia like the Taliban or ISIS.
However, the time has come for Afghanistan and its people to fight the lion's share of it battle against the Taliban, ISIS and any other Islamist militia that rares it ugly head.
In the wake of this latest mass atrocity against Afghani civilians in Kabul, it's never been more obvious that emboldening Australia's military presence in the country is a lost cause before it even happens. Increasingly it's a directionless and futile battle, so reminiscent of how Vietnam ended up being by war's end.
