The potential for a widespread agrarian bird flu outbreak in Australia right now is significantly hightened. That can't be denied or understated.
But it's vitally important, in the "national interest", not just in the interest of Australia's biosecurity, that whatever real threat is posed by bird flu, be it the H5N1 strain or not, that it's not hijacked by propaganda and sensationalism to facilitate any "political agenda" on the part of the Albanese government and every state and territory government.
The H7N3 strain of bird flu was responsible for around half a million chickens having to be destroyed at two locations in Victoria just recently.
While commonly mortal to chickens and posing a hazard to livestock, H7N3 is not a significant health risk to humans. That's medical science talking, not World Health Organization propaganda.
In no way is that to suggest that the course of action that biosecurity officers in Victoria took was recklessly preemptive. A sizable percentage of the chickens at the two farms had already perished from H7N3.
But the threat that H7N3 poses to all animals in Australia, and even moreso, the threat of it mutating into another much more dangerous form, must be kept in perspective by our political leaders, and especially, our agriculture ministers.
At this stage, the chances of any strain of bird flu strain in Australia mutating into a human to human transmission form is slim. Possible but very unlikely.
That situation might change, but certainly for now, don't be beguiled by any propaganda from "any source" that broadcasts any narrative about the need for Australians to be hurriedly vaccinated with those "experimental jabs". Because it's a big load of BS.
