CORONIAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE COVID HOTEL QUARANTINE RELATED SUICIDE OF BRENDAN LUXTON MARRED BY ALLEDGED QUEENSLAND HEALTH "BULLYING"

The family of Brendan Luxton have every right to feel that Queensland Health let him down in the worst imaginable way.

They also have every right to be thinking that premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, who was his childhood friend, has been most lacking in empathy for him and them since his tragic "quarantine suicide" at the height of the COVID pandemic.

Yes, the nature of the response to the pandemic by the Palaszczuk government in general, but particularly to do with quarantine mandates and requirements, was typically somewhat inhumane and void of compassion.

Of course, for some months at least, the government had to be "hardcore" in how it dealt with COVID. The premier and the health minister Yvette D'ath had a most unenviable job during the pandemic, especially when Delta was on the rampage. Let's cut them that much slack.

But all in all, the policies to do with hotel quarantine which the government imposed were in plain English ruthless, excessive and more often than not disproportionate to the threat posed by the person who was forced to stay in a hotel room for 14 days. Doing so was enough to make the average person go stir crazy.

Allegations that Queensland Health bullied Luxton's sister, who is an army officer, into giving "false evidence" to a coroner's investigation must be thoroughly investigated by the Office of the Independent Accessor, not some stooge employed by Queensland Health itself, and not by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

It's absolutely deplorable to think that anyone associated to Queensland Health would stoop to that gutter level, obviously "under instructions" from someone in the government who has an awful lot to lose if the truth behind the allegations is made public and is properly investigated by coronial investigators.
