JORDAN MUST BE PART OF ANY POSSIBLE 2 STATE SOLUTION BETWEEN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE

Mahmoud Abbas' recent visit to Washington for talks with Donald Trump should be heralded as at least a step in the right direction to finally once and for secure a lasting truce between Israelis and Palestinians.

It had to be seen as the most promising opportunity for that to eventuate since Bill Clinton's well meaning but ill fated attempts to mediate a "2 state solution" early in his presidency.

However, despite the resumption of diplomacy and constructive dialogue between Abbas and Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it's still going to take compromise from both sides if there is any chance of lasting peace in the whole region.

Not to mention as well, Hamas needs to be disarmed and Netanyahu must agree to an immediate suspension of Israeli settlement on recognized Palestinian territory - what little hasn't already been.

No amount of diplomacy will solve the Israel - Palestine puzzle unless the leaders from both sides give ground where it really matters - ground zero.

The only real hope of a 2-state solution ever coming to fruition to end 50 years of hostilities in the region following the 6 day war in 1967 is for Jordan to administer what would become the sovereign state of Palestine within its borders.

Much like Holland being a state of the Netherlands. Palestine within Jordan's relatively stable federation just makes political, logistical and ideological sense.
