10 YEARS IN THE SLAMMER AND NO LESS FOR ONE PUNCH THUGS WHO KILL OR MAIM

The "one punch can kill" message I'm quite sure has sunk in with the vast majority of the population. Over the past number of  years television and press reporting has highlighted how easy it is for a spontaneous act of foolhardy violence to have terrible and fatal consequences.

 

But unfortunately, it doesn't matter how much advertising and educational programs there are to thwart one punch violence, thugs are thugs, and thugs who are intoxicated and/or under the influence of aggression fueling illicit drugs, which so often exacerbate their rage, will keep killing people in random one punch attacks and the like.

 

The only message that the likes of the drunken thug who kinghit Melissa Abdoo in Mt. Isa, and the two just as big lowlifes who killed 18 year old Cole Miller in Fortitude Valley, might take any notice of, is the message the Palaszczuk Government would send by bringing in mandatory jail terms of 10 years and upwards for all violent crimes resulting in death, grievous bodily harm and brain injury of any kind.

 

So much of the time, that will include one punch crimes. Knowing that they will spend a minimum of 10 years behind bars  if they kill or severely maim someone when they go on an alcohol and/or illicit drug fueled rampage in public is at least going to be a big deterrent for those who are inclined that way. Sounds harsh - yes it is. It's also harsh to be killed or suffer some sort of a permanent brain injury at the hands of a one punch thug.
