TURNBULL'S ANTI-DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CRUSADE IS A NOBLE ONE

Prime minister Malcolm Turnbull's $100 million dollar funding pledge to help tackle and thwart the domestic violence epidemic sweeping the country is a very noble one indeed.

To a great extent at least, education is the key to bringing about the cultural change in attitudes which is needed at the most grassroots level in our community to stamp out domestic violence, or at the very least, make people so inclined to think before they assault their partner or child, or worse.

GPS tracking is obviously a very logical and pragmatic means for police to be able to keep a tab on the whereabouts of serious and repeat perpetrators of domestic violence. In more cases than not alcohol and illicit drugs are what tips someone with a violent nature over the edge to commit an act of domestic violence.

GPS tracking of the more serious offenders, one would envisage, will allow police to know if "someone" turns up to a bottle shop or the residence of a known drug dealer or supplier, in defiance of a court order banning them from consuming alcohol or taking any illicit drugs.

The funding commitment made by Mr. Turnbull for training emergency workers and hospital staff who have to deal with all the battered and bruised people, and mainly women, who are the victims of domestic violence, is most welcome and most needed. The most important thing is that the funding equates to more personnel at ground zero assisting and treating victims of domestic violence in our hospitals, not more paper shufflers.
