VOODOO DADDY SERVING UP SOME VOODOO PARTY BLUES
LONNIE BROOKS is a much overlooked blues legend of the south, at 79 years of age, he stands alongside the likes of Chicago blues legend BUDDY GUY as being amongst the very few left standing from the post war electric blues generation.
Unlike Guy, who adopted more urban lyrical themes to fit in with the Chicago club scene which he and MUDDY WATERS took by storm for decades, Brooks was always deep in the Louisiana swamp with songs about voodoo legends, myths and the dark mystique of the Louisiana bayou.
Brooks always had a thing with black cats, so i am not sure listening to him will be a lucky experience for you. Here is my favourite song of his - in the quinessential party blues category of the BLUE BROTHERS version of SWEET HOME CHICAGO and LOOK AT THAT, LOOK AT THAT by the FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS, two of my favourite boogie woogie party anthems of them all, here is SOMETHING YOU GOT by LONNIE BROOKS to make up a great trifecta.
