TIM'S TOP TWENTY PARTY ROCK SONGS : TRACK 10 - BAD CASE OF LOVING YOU by ROBERT PALMER
Like HOT BLOODED by FOREIGNER which was released a year before in 1978, BAD CASE OF LOVING YOU by english crooner and rocker ROBERT PALMER was just an absolute rip snorting piece of ballsy rock'n'roll, something extra special to end off what really had become a boring decade in the music business, a classic andidote to all the unlistenable punk rock, disco and boring progressive rock which was saturating the radio airwaves at the tail end of the 1970`s. Many people think, just like i did until not that many years ago, that the album which BAD CASE OF LOVING YOU comes off, SECRETS, was his debut album. His first four albums vanished without a trace, starting with SNEAKIN' SALLY THROUGH THE ALLY (1974) Palmer developed his unique blend of white soul, reggae and rock in those early years, the relative commercial failure of his early albums is not a fair indication of their musical depth. But you could be forgiven for thinking that BAD CASE OF LOVING YOU was a number 1 track off a debut album, it's a mighty statement of intent, in the same vein of say RUNNIN WITH THE DEVIL off the debut VAN HALEN album, released in 1978. I love ADDICTED TO LOVE and SIMPLY IRRESISTABLE which Palmer released in the 80`s, but to pick one of his songs as part of my top 20 party rock songs, i just cant go past this 1979 classic. Because i dare to be diffrent, i have posted a live performance of the song instead of the more slick studio version.
