WIMMERS PORTELLO RENAMED PORTINO TO SIDESTEP A COCA COLA ANTI-COMPETITION TRADEMARK

Between around 2003 and 2005, I worked as a storeman for Wimmers Soft Drinks distribution at Rocklea in Brisbane, a company particularly famous for three iconic varieties of soft drink.

The legendary Double Sarsaparilla, a delicious awesome version of Lemon Lime and Bitters and Portino, the latter considered to be so good to drink that Coca-Cola Amatil bought a patent on the name just to try and shut Wimmers down and this occured sometime around the very early 2000`s.

Wimmers Portino is actually Portello, Coke has given permission for various other companies to brand their products as Portello, even though Coke owns the name.

But Coke did not offer Wimmers such "compassion", because Wimmers Portino (formerly bottled as Portello), is damn yummy soft drink.

If Coke would have had its way, it would have put a patent on the names of other Wimmers soft drinks, like Double Sarsparilla and Lemon, Lime and Bitters to make sure they put the Wimmers at Cooroy out of business, but it couldn`t, because they`re generic terms and not brand names.

No one (or company) can put a patent on a generic term or description of something, but because Portello was a contrived brand name to begin with, it allowed a company with a heap of money like Coke to make the name Portello a trademark.

Portino is what you might call a grape flavoured cola, brimming full with sugar but in moderation I`m sure it wont be the reason you get sugar diabetes, if you unfortunately acquire that condition.

Portino is a better drink than Coke, there you have it, Wimmers by all rights should be selling it by the masses, just like their stout like Double Sars and Lemon Lime and Bitters.

Why anyone would drink that shit they call
Dr. Pepper is beyond me when you can rip into some Portino, both are very similar in colouring but rest assured they don't taste anythink like each other,

Dr.Pepper tastes like stink beetles smell - yuck! Talking of Lost Treasures now, does anyone know of a Wimmers drink called ANYTHING?

Apparently, Wimmers for a very brief time back in the 1920`s or 1930`s bottled the drink but unfortunately it didn`t take off and they scrapped it.

I am not in a position to find out now exactly when it was around, but while I worked at Wimmer I heard some rumours that an old empty glass bottle of ANYTHING with the label still on is worth quite a lot of dough.

When I say a lot of dough I don't mean thousands but there is every chance one is worth many hundreds of dollars.

Wimmers mainly stuck to Queensland
so in all likelihood you will never discover an old empty bottle of ANYTHING in the other states.

If anyone knows where one of these
bottles exists please let me know, I might
buy one. Can't be any worse investment than
superannuation and real estate right now.
