`BLONDIE` IS ONE SONG I GOT `TIME` FOR

Back in the late 80`s, funk and funk rock was making a comeback of sorts after being upstaged by all the synth pop, hard rock and adult orientated rock which commercial radio had been bombarding everyone with since the beginning of the 80`s.

The two funky rock bands which stood out the most from this period were Living Colour and the obscure Dan Reed Network.

Living Colour was arguably just a rock band with strong funk influences. I am not a funk rock expert, so I will have to do a bit more
research before I attempt to summarize the music output of these two bands, save for another time.

But I can tell you that the song `Ritual` off the debut Dan Reed Network album is an atmospheric hard funk rock gem, I heard it years ago on a friends cassette.

Another funk band doing the rounds at the very start of the 1990`was Prince`s backing band from his Purple Rain days called Time, a bit too funk and not enough rock for my
liking. I actually bought a Time CD in the mid 1990`s which happened to be "Pandemonium", which was released in 1990.

Very funky but very repetitious to be
honest. To me, after about two dozen listens, the CD had not aged well and by the late 90`s or thereabouts I had traded the thing in at a second hand music shop.

But I regret doing that now, because one song off the album `Blondie`, is a funk hard rock masterpiece, arguably the greatest of its kind.

The meaty guitar riff that powers the song along from woh to go sounded a lot more exciting than anything that Eddie Van Halen
cooked up at 5150 during the 90`s.

In hindsight, I still can't believe that i finally got my hands on a `Blondie`and was then stupid enough to trade her for $5 a few
years later. That`s one more than a brunette anyway.
