MILES' BIG GOVERNMENT FUEL STATIONS ELECTION PITCH NOT ALL WHAT IT SEEMS

On the surface, premier Steven Miles' "election pitch" to set up government owned fuel stations in Queensland, to cap fuel prices for all us cash strapped motorists, sounds wonderfully noble, generous and well meaning.

Populism wins elections and Steven Miles is in overdrive and heaping on the sweeteners to win an "unwinnable" election for Labor.

In comparison to the $1000 power rebate for Queensland households, which was and is a desperate attempt by Miles to buy Labor votes at the October state election, the government owned fuel stations pitch, at face value anyway, comes across as being properly considered policy.

Sounds great doesn't it. Government owned fuel stations will cap fuel prices and stop their commercial competitors from ripping motorists off at the same time.

But the problem is in all likelihood that the Miles government is not going out on this election tangent solely to cap fuel prices and to be the Good Samaritan for motorists.

Chances are is that it has a lot to do with Miles and Labor wanting to CONTROL the supply of fuel in Queensland.

Because the Miles government is as hellbent on meeting Net Zero targets by 2035 as is the federal Albanese government, and petroleum, gas and diesel are simply not compatible with the "warped objectives" of Net Zero.

So the reality is - whether Miles publicly admits it or not, he and Labor in Queensland are going to do what they have to, to phase out or at least greatly discourage the use of petroleum, gas and diesel in Queensland.

What better way to do that than for his re-elected government to gain a big stake in being able to control the supply of fuel?

After reading this, you might well be thinking of a Crash Test Dummies song from the early 1990s, which is titled Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm.
