DICTATOR DAN BECOMES 2026 COMMONWEALTH GAMES GRINCH

Victorian premier Daniel Andrews doesn't seem to understand or care what kind of can of worms he has opened by canning the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

It is economically, diplomatically and politically treacherous what he has done. Not to mention, the potential and probable financial impacts on so many athletes and sporting fraternities, both here and abroad, will effectively damage the viability of the sports which rely on the Commonwealth and Olympic Games for survival. 

Andrews has sent a message to not only the Commonwealth Games bosses in London, but to whole world, that don't even bother again with Victoria to host any major world event, not just the Commonwealth Games.

Obviously, in the eyes of decision makers overseas who are tasked with planning big events, like for example a future soccer world cup in the years to come, they're not going to forget Victorian Labor pulling the pin on the 2026 Commonwealth Games in any sort of a hurry. Australia as a whole is now tarred with Andrew's hairbrained brush as far as winning the rights to stage any big international event. 

Yes, the price tag involved to stage the 2026 games in Victoria was mighty contentious, on paper it seems that the financial benefits barely outweigh the drawbacks, but even if the games broke even, it was still always going to be a lot smarter decision for them to go ahead. 

Undoubtedly, the Victorian government won't get off without paying a "huge penalty" to the Commonwealth Games governing body, Victorian taxpayers will foot that bill, and they won't have the games to boot. Real smart Daniel Andrews - not.
