LORD MAYOR SCHRINNER MADE THE NONSENSICAL SCAPEGOAT FOR BRISBANE PUBLIC FLOOD ALERT FAILINGS

Seriously - what was the Brisbane City Council and Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner supposed to do?

Wouldn't it be fair to say that Cr. Schrinner and his fellow councillors were, and are, a lot less qualified to know and fully understand the potential threat posed to Brisbane's suburbs by any major flooding event, than many other public servants employed by, for example, the State Emergency Service and the Bureau of Meteorology?

It beggars belief that the damning independent review has singled out the Brisbane City Council and leveled total blame at it for failing Brisbane's residents by not alerting them in time as to the severity of the floods in March, but has made absolutely no mention of the Palaszczuk government, and placed any blame on it.

Premier Palaszczuk loves every opportunity she can get to call an emergency media conference.

So why didn't she and government agencies act a lot more swiftly to alert the public and the residents of Brisbane to the impending danger to lives and property posed by the March flooding event?

Premier Palaszczuk gets a lot more briefings behind the scenes from think-tanks employed by the SES and BOM than Lord Mayor Schrinner ever does. It's quite preposterous to accuse the Lord Mayor of failing in his duty.

The State Government, through its agencies, and via the mainstream media, is able to alert the general public in a much quicker and more educated manner about any emergency situation, than any council administration.

The Brisbane City Council, like every council, does what the State Government tells it to, or advises it to. Lord Mayor Schrinner should well be asking why Premier Palaszczuk wasn't on the phone to him a lot earlier to give the council at least a reasonable amount of time to devise a contingency plan of its own to deal with the emergency that was already unfolding.
