As much as Queensland's economy needs new mining development, and gas projects as well, notwithstanding that fracking remains a highly contentious and dubious process, it must not come at the expense of the environment, or for that matter, koala habitat.
It's inexplicable and beyond rationale why right now the Palaszczuk Government is giving the go ahead to the clearing of prime koala habitat for new CSG wells across Queensland.
Furthermore, the government in general is allowing due processes with regard to environmental assessment of open cut mine developments, specific to clearing of bushland, to be blatantly bypassed at departmental level.
It's totally unacceptable - environment minister Steven Miles has some explaining to do.
To explain why a government that owes its existence to Greens preferences in the first place is prepared to allow prime bushland to be bulldozed by mining and gas companies, seemingly with no grasp of the irrevocable consequences involved.
