DRUG DRIVERS ON QUEENSLAND ROADS ARE OUT THERE IN BIG NUMBERS

The statistics are appalling. Seriously there has got to be a lot of idiots out there driving on Queensland roads.

They being all the Queenslanders who have been nabbed by police for drug driving in the past few weeks alone since the school holidays began.

What is wrong with people? Despite all the warnings under the sun about the perils of driving under the influence of illicit drugs, there are some who must simply be too dumb to listen and act accordingly.

Drug driving is now more common than drink driving, if the worsening statistics that the police themselves are publicizing is any indication.

In some regions of Queensland over the past few weeks, police have booked around 1 in 5 drivers for driving under the influence of an illicit drug.

It's madness, no other way to describe it. Obviously police in Queensland need to do a lot more to curb this disturbing statistic.

Achieving that outcome will be largely dependent on the  Police Minister and Police Commissioner acting to allocate more police manpower to conducting more drug driving roadside tests.

If that means less traffic police are booking motorists for low range speeding and more of them are booking drug drivers, then goody gum drops, let it be so.

Police can only do so much all the same to rein in drug driving in Queensland, if the courts keep letting drug drivers off with a slap on the wrist and no fair dinkum punishment, then police are wasting their time and the problem is only going to get worse.
