QLD RAIL BOSSES AND STIRLING HINCHLIFFE MUST HAVE BEEN DAYDREAMING

The Queensland Rail timetable debacle was completely avoidable had Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe and QR bosses been on the ball and not daydreaming about the impacts on an already understaffed QR workforce that the opening of the new Redcliffe line would have on the entire network.

On their part, it can only be described as being a display of poor, inept and out of touch management. The sort of ineptitude which would get a damn lot of managers working in the private sector the sack.

Before the Redcliffe line was opened, QR bosses should have made doubly certain that there was enough manpower, as in train drivers and station guards, to keep up with the service demands of the entire network.

As well, it's beyond the pale why Mr. Hinchliffe, his director-general or a senior adviser within his department didn't act much sooner and a lot more proactively to directly engage with QR bosses to at least greatly lessen the chaotic disruption to train services currently being experienced.

If there wasn't enough train drivers to go around to keep the entire network operating like it's supposed to - fine, that's not what QR or Hinchliffe should be grilled over. They couldn't have plucked train drivers out of the sky. But they still couldn't organize a dog fight.
