GLOBALIZATION OFFERS A FEW ECONOMIC BLESSINGS BUT IT'S MORE OF A CURSE
The G20 is the template of globalization. Like everything, globalization in moderation offers a few economic blessings, as in a few free trade sweeteners. That's about where the compliments should end.
No, it's definitely not a magic wand or a pot of gold over the rainbow, or a guarantee of economic prosperity for any country or government vying for business in the global economy. Governments still have to adopt and deliver on sound economic policy on their own turf to achieve that.
Much more often than not, the G20 has proven to be a curse, and not a blessing. The globalization ideology which it propagates on the UN world stage is against all principles of pragmatic protectionist policy and corporate sovereignty, and the damage it has wrought on domestic industry is immense.
The decimation of the Australian manufacturing industry, just as one example, since the early 1990's bears testament to that.
We are always being told how Australia has to open its doors to the world to be on a level footing with the rest of the world.
Fair enough I guess, but the attitude that prime minister Malcolm Turnbull must exert on the world stage to other G20 leaders is that he's still going to look after No. 1 first, and if they don't like it - too bad. No. 1 being Australia, Australians and Australian industry and business.
