In the quarter of a century since the Fitzgerald Inquiry and the end of the Bjelke-Petersen era, there have umpteen amount of political witchhunts and probes waged in Queensland.
Most of them have been mobilized on Labor's watch, given that Labor has been in power for the vast majority of the time since Wayne Goss' government was elected in late 1989.
The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC), which started out as the Criminal Justice Commission (CJC) in in the early 90's and more recently was known as the Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC), has always been heavily politicized. To such an extent that on numerous occasions it has been used by the government of the day to brick a political opponent with accusations of corruption and impropriety that wouldn't even stack up in a court of law.
Restoring the Upper House in Queensland is what needs to happen. Sure it will cost taxpayers a lot of money, but no more than what the CCC ( and what it's previously been known as) has sucked up for the past 25 years and will continue to suck up. I say scrap the CCC holus bolus, scrap all the costly inquiries and probes and let 12 senators be the corruption watchdog for Queensland. I would much sooner like to have elected senators play that role than unelected bureaucrats and barristers who don't have to answer to anybody.
