BUDDY HOLLY REMINISCING WITH KING CURTIS
The reason why BUDDY HOLLY become an immortal rock god in the space of a mere 18 months between 1957 and 1959 was because he was a visionary as well as being one of the great rock'n'roll performers alongside Elvis. He had the vision to look beyond the fickleties of the rock'n'roll craze and dabble in diffrent styles of music, the three songs he recorded just months before he died with orchestral backing - TRUE LOVES WAYS, RAINING IN MY HEART and MOONDREAMS, a prime example of what might have been had he not hopped on the doomed plane which crashed on the 3rd February, 1959. Besides the orchestral recordings Holly made in late 1958, one other 'experimental' song he recorded which i rate in the same category is his corroboration with black saxophonist KING CURTIS which resulted in REMINISCING. Holly's cover of Bobby Darin's EARLY IN THE MORNING is another example of what we could have expected from him had he outlived the 1950`s.
